Discover Rocky Point: The closest beach town to Phoenix
The glistening Sea of Cortez was better than expected. The giant resort that we checked into was like Los Cabos, but much less expensive. It had a wide-spread beachfront area containing pools, hot tubs and a swim-up bar with stools under the water. Then, it had steps down to the sand of the beach, where we could walk for miles to the north and to the south.
Wrecked at the Reef, a very popular bar and grill near the beach, north of the resorts, was an awesome place for a relaxing dinner with live music.
Wrecked at the Reef
At Wrecked at the Reef, you can either spend your time inside the well decorated restaurant and bar, or just ask, and they’ll provide you with a table and chairs right on the beach. There, you can gaze out at the beautiful Sea of Cortez while eating and drinking. On the beach, to the left is a sand volleyball court. To the rear, there’s a stage where you’ll likely be watching a talented perfomer sing live music. Then, inside the bar, find many TVs to watch games like the Arizona Diamondbacks.
This place is very nice and affordable too!
You’ll rant and rave to all of your family and friends, who may either cherish Rocky Point, or have fear of it simply because it’s in Mexico. Well, never fear. This place is safer than most places in Phoenix, and much cheaper and exciting.
No matter how low your expectations may be, due to the many years of random reports about drug crimes and deadly shootings, remember this: There are deadly shootings all over the USA. The difference is this: When a shooting happens in the USA, it happened in THAT part of town, or in Chicago or Detroit, where violence is rampant.
When there’s a shooting in Mexico, that’s how it’s referred. “It happened in Mexico!” So remember, Sonora is the safest state in Mexico, and Rocky Point is withing the “no hassle” zone, where the government highly regards tourism. Use common sense and you WILL be safe.
